Searcy Arkansas & White County: Area Recreation

Searcy offers residents and visitors alike a vast variety of opportunities from outdoor activities to a wide array of cultural, recreational and family-oriented attractions. Hunting, fishing, boating and camping can be found within easy driving distance. Turkey, deer, duck and quail hunting are found here with possible black bear, deer & elk permits area also within driving distance.

The Little Red River offers world-class fishing and is the home of the International Game and Fish Association and National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame. The Little Red River tailwaters can be found below Greers Ferry Dam. World record brown trout was caught here in 1992 and weighed over 40 pounds!

The Henry Gray/Hurricane Lake Wildlife Refuge with 17,000 plus acres for hunting and fishing offers some of the best mallard duck hunting available anywhere. Bald Knob National Wildlife with 14,800 plus acres offers winter waterfowl--about half of which is available for hunting.

Area events and festivals include the HomeFest in May at Bald Knob with 3 days of activities such as a parade, various contests and more. Searcy's "Summer in the City" provides such outstanding headliners as the Beach Boys, the Lovin' Spoonful and others. Independence Day is celebrated in Pangburn, Floyd and Judsonia with parades, fine food, fireworks, contests, live entertainment and other fun-filled events. A World Championship Cardboard Boat Festival is held each July in Heber Springs. The White County Fair has been listed as one of top 10 county fairs in the nation. Searcy hosts the annual Holiday of Lights Festival which has become a major attraction for the city.

Searcy encourages the arts in the community and employs a Director of the Arts in the Parks and Recreation Department. The city maintains the Searcy Art Gallery in the historic Benjamin Clayton Black House.

The Stevens Art Gallery can be found on the
Harding Campus. The Harding Summer Dinner
Theater is in its 21st year of production. There are
also 2 dinner theaters in Searcy. Also on the Harding University campus are an annual Spring Sing, the Chamber Music Series in the Reynolds Center Recital Hall and the American Studies Distinguished Lecture Series featuring such noted speakers as President George Bush, Bill Cosby, General Colin Powell
and others.

Searcy also offers some of the state's most
scenic golfing with 2 golf courses and a driving
range. The Course at River Oaks is semi-private
and features a gently rolling landscape along
the Little Red River. The private Searcy Country
Club also features an array of wonderful
amenities.
